These retreats are for brand new Never-Picked-Up-a-Rod students, and students who have been out fishing but still daunted by mending, line management, and reading water.

We teach students how to practice and build a strong foundation of tying knots, casting, reading water, fly selection, line management, hookset and play, and understanding trout behavior.

Students will leave with the ability to plan a day on the river, identify water that should hold trout, and have the skills to present the fly drag-free and get a fish to the net.‍

The Intermediate Retreats are for anglers who have been successfully catching trout, but feel that they are stuck “catching the little guys” or that their success hinges on “luck.”

We teach students with a strong fly fishing foundation how to create a strategy for catching trout on the first cast.

This includes approach theory, mending pattern predictions, different rig set ups, and advanced casting and line management techniques.

Students will learn how to read the water based on different seasons and environmental conditions to choose the most likely holding water, and then develop a strategy for fishing it.

Students will have the ability to create a 10-step strategy for catching trout on the first cast based on their knowledge of how trout location and behavior varies as the environment and food sources change seasonally.
